Prologue
Immer is a live event management platform helping organizers plan, promote, and execute events with ease. As Immer scaled, it became clear that first-time users—especially smaller event organizers—were struggling to understand how to get started. This friction impacted activation and retention rates.
To address this, I led a redesign of the onboarding experience for both mobile and desktop platforms with a focus on clarity, modularity, and efficiency.
Problem Statement
Immer’s existing onboarding was overwhelming, disjointed, and lacked contextual guidance. Users often:
Dropped off before completing the setup
Missed key features like promo tools or analytics
Felt lost navigating across the desktop and mobile apps
We needed an onboarding system that was intuitive, goal-driven, and adaptable to different organizers' needs, whether they were managing a local meetup or a national conference.

User Interviews & Surveys
We surveyed and interviewed 6 Immer users.
Focus areas included:
What helped or hindered your first-time experience?
How do you prefer learning about new tools?
What steps felt unnecessary or confusing?
Where do you expect support or guidance?

Competitive Analysis
In analyzing the event management platform landscape, several competitors offer notable features in onboarding and multi-platform sharing:

The Vision
Build an onboarding system that is:
Frictionless: Helps users go from sign-up to event creation in under 5 minutes
Flexible: Tailors flows based on user intent and event size
Foundational: Sets up users to explore advanced features naturally over time
This system was designed with longevity and scale in mind. Whether launching in new markets or adapting for different verticals, the onboarding process can grow with Immer.
Solution
We introduced a streamlined, multi-step onboarding flow designed with clarity and guidance in mind.
Key elements:
Progressive Disclosure: Users were introduced to features as they became relevant—no information overload.
Platform-Specific Layouts: Desktop focused on bulk task management; mobile emphasized quick actions and ticket scanning.
Live Previews: Organizers could see real-time examples of what attendees would experience.
Modular Components: Onboarding flows could plug in/out based on user type (e.g., first-time organizer, returning planner).
